Lot N. 249
Del Governo et amministratione di diversi regni et repubbliche
Author: M. Francesco Sansovino
Printed in Venice in 1583 by Altobello Salicato at the Libreria della Fortezza, dedicated to Iacomo Regazzoni, Lord of Santo Odorico, in the Friuli province.
Quarter-folio volume, rigid binding with vellum on the spine bearing the title of the work.
The volume is a treatise considered essential for understanding Renaissance political thought and is divided into twelve books in one. The text discusses orders, laws, magistrates, as well as the customs and practices of various kingdoms and republics, all listed on the first page of the volume.
Fine printer’s device, decorative initials, headpieces, and book-ending ornaments are present. The first page bears some handwritten annotations; there are humidity stains and a few wormholes. The twelfth book appears to lack the final page, although the original binding shows no signs of restoration or tampering.
