Dedicated to Charles VI, Emperor of Spain. Folio volume, bound in rigid vellum.
The volume features on the second page an engraved portrait of Emperor Charles VI. Decorative initials and woodcut tailpieces appear at the end of each section. It is richly illustrated with full-page engravings depicting horse tack and stirrups, as well as the exercises to be performed by the animals. The book is further embellished with engravings of nobles on horseback and other illustrious figures.
The work deals with equestrian matters and the use of arms, addressing the subject in particular from the equipment and tack of the rider through to the exercises for training horses, as well as methods of jousting and fencing practice for horsemen. The volume is enhanced by full-page engravings illustrating the correct postures to be adopted by riders. The treatise also covers hunting, with a dedicated set of illustrations for this section as well.
