Lot N. 223
Opera della Medicina de Cavalli
Authors: Various Ancient Writers
Printed in Venice in 1559 by P. Gironimo Giglio and Companions
Sixteenth-folio volume, later paper binding with a label indicating the title, raised bands on the spine; two books bound in one.
In good condition, with some stains, folded and slightly worn page corners. Fine printer’s device and decorative initials open the first book. Notably, the printer’s device depicts a triangle/pyramid, a symbol historically used by printers to guard against counterfeiting.
The work is a collection of ancient veterinary texts on horses, translated from Greek into Italian.
