Detailed Description
Rare 16th-century edition printed in Venice by the celebrated Giolito de’ Ferrari press. The volume represents one of the foundational texts of Italian Renaissance veterinary medicine, written by Giovanni Antonio Cito, a Neapolitan physician and cavallerizzo (master of horsemanship).
The content is divided into three books devoted to:
– Diagnosis and treatment of equine and bovine diseases.
– A formulary of specific remedies for each condition described.
– A supplement to La Gloria del Cavallo by Pasquale Caracciolo.
The title page is embellished with the famous Giolito printer’s device: a phoenix rising from the flames upon a globe, surmounted by the sun, set within a rich architectural frame bearing the motto “Semper Eadem.”
