Both title pages feature a refined central copper-engraved vignette within a Baroque frame, along with the indication “Con licenza de’ Superiori, e Privilegio” (“With license of the Superiors, and Privilege”).
Binding:
Contemporary plain wrappers in marbled or decorated paper, with period handwritten titles on the spines (“Lambertini Notificazioni”). The condition of the bindings is to be considered fragile, with extensive losses to the covering paper and partially exposed spines.
Historical notes:
A valuable collection of legislative and pastoral acts by Prospero Lambertini, one of the most learned and influential popes of the 18th century. The volumes document the administrative and reforming activity carried out during his long archbishopric in Bologna, prior to his elevation to the papal throne. The Venetian edition by Pitteri is renowned for its typographical quality and clarity of type.
Condition:
Study copies with fresh, wide-margined interiors, despite the external defects. Noted issues include:
Worn bindings with significant losses to the spines and abrasions to the covers.
Sporadic foxing and natural signs of age that do not compromise the integrity of the text.
