Avvedimenti Civili” di M. Giouan Francesco Lottini da Volterra “Prose di M. Agnolo Firenzuola Fiorentino” “Gli Amori [..]

The First, printed in Venice by Iacomo Leonzini, 1575, dedicated to the Grand Duke of Tuscany, D. Francesco Medici.
The Second, printed in Florence by the Giunti, 1562.
The Third, printed in Venice by Andrea Muschio, 1566.

These are three books bound together in a single 1/8 folio volume, in limp vellum with the title on the spine.

At the beginning of the first book there are some contemporary notes, a fine printer’s mark on the first page, decorative initials, and headpieces. The book collects 563 thoughts on philosophical and political topics, presented with a Counter-Reformation spirit. The text was highly successful, reaching six reprints; this is the second edition, in a format different from the first.

The second book opens with the typical Giunti printer’s mark, slightly colored, and features beautiful decorative initials, some lightly tinted. The text by Agnolo Firenzuola, a writer and abbot known for his prose and poetry, contains several prose works: I discorsi degli animali, Delle Bellezze delle Donne, i Ragionamenti Amorosi dedicated to the Count of Aversa, Epistola in lode delle Donne, and Novelle Otto. All the treatises have fine initials and some small illustrations.

The third book has a fine printer’s mark on the first page and decorative initials. The work is a Hellenistic novel, one of the first Italian translations; its first printing, also translated by Carani, dates to 1550 in Florence.

The condition of all three books is more than good, with minor stains; the vellum cover shows some small abrasions.
